paints on paper

I let paint float on top of water and with some practice and patience made some neat designs. I then put thick paper on top of the water and let it pick up the paint. This one is a family of jellyfish!

topography

I made this card a while back. It was made with layers of spraypaint pressings and dryings and more spraypaint pressings. I think it looks like a topographical map, I mean if there were a topographical map of my brain or dreams or maybe a lost city under the sea.

everyday learning more;

One of the great things about art, to me, is the fact that every day I am learning more. I have many interests, but at this junction I am good at none of them. Thats when our friend trial and error comes into play. I can fuck around with a cheap canon, I can crochet foreign objects to my hearts content, and I can dream like I've never dreamt before. Everyday I try to get just a little bit better at what I'm doing, and I hope after a few years and much time, I will be good enough at atleast one of the things I love so much. So, here are some photos I took. They are neither horrible nor wonderful, but they are progress, and that has to count for something, right? Im trying, a heartfelt fucking PUSH at trying, which is something. Growing learning, loving, fucking up, im into all of it. For the rest of this mangled set, check the flickr page.

entry #151, cooking with robots, teatime

oh hey,
I just realized that last entry was number 150. a milestone! I am happy I havent given up on this blog, though sometimes I have no clue what its function is, or why I post. Originally it was started to have one venue to post the party photos I took of all you guys. But then I got kind of bored with taking party photos all the time, so its turned into a jumble of music, crafts, photos, and food. Recently, Miles and I started a little food blog, its nothing special, but I am a new vegan and its nice to have a little place to catalogue cooking disasters and cooking masterpieces. Anyways, back to THIS blog. I am trying to figure out what to focus on...I think im going to take all the food out of this blog and transfer it over to Cooking With Robots. I think this blog will continue as an arts and crafts kind of blog, with postings of projects I am working on, inspirational things, art shows, photos/photo projects, as well as just nice things I encounter througout my days and the beautiful people I hang with. If that sounds good to you, then keep checkin in... It's fun to do this blog, it keeps me motivated, and its nice to share projects and shit with those of you I dont see on a daily basis!
So on that note, I leave you with a photo of the tea I am enjoying. It's my day off and its so nice to sit at home and drink tea out of a little pot.

guess who.

HERE IT IS. This project probably took WAYY to long to complete, but we finally did it! I drew the faces on photoshop, and Miles colored them in on photoshop. We had the images printed onto thick cardstock, and then fit them into the Guess Who slots. Its so good, and so much fun to play. We get to ask questions like "do you have a crush on this person?", "is your person a musician, an alcoholic, do we party with them much?" "Does your person live in Sonoma County..." and etc.
I am posting two photos of the assembled board, but I am also posting a photo of all the people I drew! As you can see, I got better towards the end, and for especially difficult people, (Cam's HAIR) I did a little tracing.
Anyways. I am proud of it. Its fun to play. Have a look.

ice cream you scream

Tonight I made Vegan Cookies and Cream Ice Cream. I have an ice cream machine that I dont use often enough. The ice cream is dreamy. I think i finally figured out how to make it keep a good consistency, but i never have anything to store it in. This is kind of a problem, but tupperware works for now!

foods.

The good thing about working a farmers market is the insane amount of free food i get every week. Right now the farm i work for is growing amazing fall and winter foods- we have beets, winter carrots, turnips, radishes, chard, kales, mustard, fennel...etc! Last week I took home three bunches of baby beets and decided to make a kind of risotto. I was inspired by my friend Jessie Mae of Vegan Soldier who made a vegan beet-risotto dish. I have been trying to eat a variety of grains and came across a recipe for barley risotto. You know, creamy long cooking grains with lots of veggie broth and onions and garlic. yum. Anyways, i combined the two recipes, stealing Jessie Mae's beets and the barley risotto recipe from Super Natural Cooking. It was delicious. I had (free!!) pine nuts on hand so i toasted them and added to the whole deal. It was bomb. I took a few photos. Come over for dinner sometime. I will make this again. It's too good, and the barley really stands up against your typical arborio rice for the risotto...its slightly nutty and has a great texture. Okay, enough pretending to be a pro chef. Go make yourselves dinner.

Washing baby beets!

Chopping red cippolini onions from the farm. They are so small they look like little leeks inside.

The finished project! Barley Risotto with Roasted Beets and Pinenuts. And its vegan, too.

film.

i took some film photos about two months ago with miles canon ae-1. i sued 1600 speed film and aimed to get contrasty shots. im not too impressed with any of these, but i think im gonna keep experimenting with film, and more specifically, contrast. anyways, i leanred alot today! miles taught me how to scan negatives and now i feel like i can learn anything!

more paintbrushes.

recently ive drawn brass knuckles, chris jehly, and a birthday party.

necker.

i invented a cozy neck warming device that has many functions. i am dubbing it "the necker". it is a magical neck warming cozy that is ideal for riding bikes (as their are no annoying scarf flaps slapping you in the face), it is also a makeshift hat, ear muff, and if you have long thick hair, or dreads, you can store them in the necker. girls and boys with longer hair are encouraged to tuck hair into necker for safety and comfort purposes. the necker is a crocheted, woolen cozy that slips over your head and rests on your neck/ears/face. soon there will be neckers in many colors and even many with your initials crocheted onto them. here are some horribly lit photos of the necker, as i am in a rush to get to work!
so, what do you think? bad idea, good idea? would you wear one?

birthday fliers.

For the past few years i have made ms paint/photoshop fliers for every and any occasion. most often these are birthday fliers, but sometimes they are sexy rock and roll parties, going away parties, old man parties, etc.
anyways, my birthday is coming up very soon, so i made a flier for the occasion. i searched my computer for old flier files, and i found a few, but sadly, i think the first ones were erased in the epic computer crash of 2007. i love making fliers, i think i should do it professionally. hire me, okay?
