Camera Obscura

Yesterday Miles, Drew, and myself went about the process of turning our apartment into a camera obscura. It was Miles' idea, and with his guidance we were able to succesfully do it- and it was so amazing!!! Definitely one of the coolest things I've ever been a part of making. We covered every window in our house with layers of garbage bags, blocking out as much light as possible. Miles made a small, penny sized hole in one of the bags in the main room, he made a little lense using a straw, and his ear plug, and he was able to direct the light/image and focus it a little bit more onto our walls. It was an awesome experience, we all sat back on the bed and just watched cars, people, and bicyclist go by. It was awesome to see the wind blowing trees around and try and figure out what buildings we were looking at, and what signs, since everything was upside down. I took a few photos of the process, and Miles took a couple long exposures of the images being projected on the walls. They arent super crisp, but you get the idea. Just imagine being in a very, very dark room at 2p.m. and watching the world go by, upside down, on your living room walls. So rad!!!

entry #151, cooking with robots, teatime

oh hey,
I just realized that last entry was number 150. a milestone! I am happy I havent given up on this blog, though sometimes I have no clue what its function is, or why I post. Originally it was started to have one venue to post the party photos I took of all you guys. But then I got kind of bored with taking party photos all the time, so its turned into a jumble of music, crafts, photos, and food. Recently, Miles and I started a little food blog, its nothing special, but I am a new vegan and its nice to have a little place to catalogue cooking disasters and cooking masterpieces. Anyways, back to THIS blog. I am trying to figure out what to focus on...I think im going to take all the food out of this blog and transfer it over to Cooking With Robots. I think this blog will continue as an arts and crafts kind of blog, with postings of projects I am working on, inspirational things, art shows, photos/photo projects, as well as just nice things I encounter througout my days and the beautiful people I hang with. If that sounds good to you, then keep checkin in... It's fun to do this blog, it keeps me motivated, and its nice to share projects and shit with those of you I dont see on a daily basis!
So on that note, I leave you with a photo of the tea I am enjoying. It's my day off and its so nice to sit at home and drink tea out of a little pot.

bathwater.

The Sutro Baths.
I imagine that the rich kids of yesteryear enjoyed the baths in the middle of summer while snacking on cocktails and ciggarettes, wearing pretty swimming caps and high swim trunks. Today at the baths was much different, we were greeted with clouds and crabs, tankers from China and suns disguised as moons. I will go back to the baths for a picnic come summer, I will bring two dollar wine and vegan sandwiches. I will sit in a shallow pool and chain smoke. It will be perfect.

guess who.

HERE IT IS. This project probably took WAYY to long to complete, but we finally did it! I drew the faces on photoshop, and Miles colored them in on photoshop. We had the images printed onto thick cardstock, and then fit them into the Guess Who slots. Its so good, and so much fun to play. We get to ask questions like "do you have a crush on this person?", "is your person a musician, an alcoholic, do we party with them much?" "Does your person live in Sonoma County..." and etc.
I am posting two photos of the assembled board, but I am also posting a photo of all the people I drew! As you can see, I got better towards the end, and for especially difficult people, (Cam's HAIR) I did a little tracing.
Anyways. I am proud of it. Its fun to play. Have a look.

neverending projects.

Miles and I completed the largest portion of a project we are working on together, last night. It is a good feeling! We worked for about 3 solid hours last night, and today we will do more of the technical assembly portions of this anticipated project. Here is a little glimpse of what we are doing, but I can tell you no more! It looks like we can unveil this project in just a few days...maybe today if the printing goes well! So, stay tuned, and be stoked, because this is gonna be so fun.

santa cruz pt 1.

the three of us went on an epic journey, and too be honest, it had been too long since we had spent any quality time together. we took the one and enjoyed the warm day. we stopped at a beach and found a giant dead blue bird. he had a long yellow beak and huge flat feet. we climbed a steep cliff, found a newly deceased sea lion basking on the beach with a missing eye. i would like to believe she died at sea, of old age and came to the shore to spend her last moments asleep in the sun. we explored caves and played with flashlights. we crawled through the thick cave clay and saw spiders and breathed the musky cave air. we ate food from india and brazil. we made vegan pizzas and went to the farmers market. it was the best vacation. (and now i want to explore every cave in the world!)

photo 1 is the cliff we hiked down, photo two shows the remnants of the dock that stood in order load concrete. photo 3 is the giant sea lion. photo 4 is me, really haggard and sweating after tromping around cliffs and sand.

photo 5, 6, 7 are in the cave. it was so wonderfully dark, quiet and still. photo 8 is me after cave exploring. makeup everywhere, hair dreads, it was amazing.

these photos were of the beach with the dead sea bird. i have more neat feather shots and some gruesome bird goo, but who needs to see that?
