I'm posting this here because I can't comment on your livejournal. I'm sorry to hear that you're hard up for money, that's a rough place to be.
I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but have you considered applying for food stamps? When my roommate first moved to California he was super poor and food stamps kept him from having to choose between rent and groceries. The average monthly amount is $200, which could go a long way toward helping get out of debt. If you feel checking it out, you can go here: http://www.dss.cahwnet.gov/foodstamps/default.htm
I've heard about people getting things retroactively covered by Medi-cal or Healthy San Francisco, but I couldn't find anything about it on either one of their websites. Might be worth looking into.
Basically, I feel for you and I hope things get better.
